Retired Lieutenant Colonel Joel James Deville passed away peacefully at his home Saturday January 24, 2015 surrounded by is family. He was a very loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was 83 years old. He was born on September 3, 1931 in New Roads, LA. He graduated with a BS in accounting from LSU. He was a CPA for 35 years with his own private practice in Baton Rouge, La. He was an IRS agent with the Federal Government, controller of the Department of Highways, Deputy State Treasurer under Mary Evelyn Parkers Administration. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force reserve retiring after 22 years of service to that branch. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 59 years Sybil Hains Deville of Rayne, La.; four daughters and sons in law, Diane Deville, Elaine Copponex and husband Gregory S Copponex, Julie Taylor and husband Larry W Taylor, Mariette Manuel and husband Gladney "Guy" L Manuel III; eight grandchildren and their spouses, William Eric Byrd and Ashley Byrd, Sybil L Byrd, Cody Hains Copponex and Alyse Copponex, Audrey C Copponex, Chad Deville Taylor, Michelle Snow and Johnathan, Renee A Taylor, Mariette "Ava" Manuel; four great grandchildren, Thomas and Hunter Byrd, Makayla Snow and Mariette Barner. He was preceded in death by his father Joel Deville, mother Ethel Pourciau and brother John Edmund Deville. Visitation will be at St Mary of False River Catholic Church in New Roads on Tuesday January 27, 2015 from 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Entombment to follow in False River Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Larry Taylor, Greg Copponex, Guy Manuel, Eric Byrd, Chad Taylor and Cody Copponex. He will be remembered for his intellect, compassion, quick wit, generosity and his love of family. He was true gentleman. He will be missed by all who loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers family request that donations be made to The Seelos Center 919 Josephine St. New Orleans, LA 70130, Juvenile Diabetes Association, Palliative Care foundation of Baton Rouge , MD Anderson and the Wounded Warrior Project. A special thanks to Dr. Vince Cataldo and his staff and Clarity Hospice.

Mr. Deville hired me with the State Treasury back in March 1976. He gave me a chance when a lot of people might not have. I've never forgotten that are his kindness through the years. My condolences to the Deville family.

Joel was always quite the gentleman as was Lewis, no matter how rowdy Marie and Sybil got! They enjoyed many good laughs over coffee. We share in your sadness at this time.
