THORNTON SR., CLARENCE H. Clarence H. Thornton Sr., a resident of New Orleans, went to his final resting place at 10:52 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta. He was 85 years of age and a retired U.S. Postal Service mail carrier. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a lifetime member of American Federation of Musicians Local 174-496 and St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice S. Thornton; son, Spec. 4 Evans Jerome Thornton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ruffin T. Thornton Sr.; and brothers, Sullivan and Milton Thornton and Wesley Jiles. He is survived by his daughters, Carol T. Johnson, Joyce T. Bruce, Veronica T. Riggs, Bernita Thornton and Michele Roberts; sons, Dr. Charence H. Thornton Jr., Kevin Thornton Sr. and Keith Toney; brother, Evins Thornton Sr.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, including pastors, officers and members of 1st Free Mission Baptist Church, St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church, St. Mark 4th Baptist Church, Life Center Full Gospel Cathedral, Living Faith Christian Fellowship, Bethany World Prayer Center and Jackson Memorial Baptist Church of Atlanta, employees of Orleans Parish and East Baton Rouge Parish school systems, LA Federation of Families, Veterans Administration Hospital, Regions Bank of Atlanta, AAA Cooper Transportation Co., Serologicals Corp., members of Eta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and Omega Psi Phi fraternity are invited to attend the funeral service at 1st Free Mission Baptist Church, 426 Lamarque St., Algiers, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, with the Rev. Willie T. Moore officiating. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Interment in Providence Memorial Park. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil St., Gretna.
