Bryan Willis Brabston Jr., age 86, passed away September 6, 2019 in Ridgeland, MS after a long illness. A native of Vicksburg, MS he was married to Joy Banks Brabston for 64 years. He was preceded in death by his father Bryan Willis Brabston Sr., mother Natalie Newell Brabston and brother William Newell Brabston. He served in the U. S. Army in the Army Security Agency and in ASA Korea. After graduation with highest honors in Civil Engineering from MS State University he began a long career with ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge, Chicago and New York, ending his career in Baton Rouge as Public Affairs Manager and Lobbyist with the LA legislature. He received many honors including the Environmental Award from the LA Press Corp. He served as chairman of the LA Emergency Response Committee and as president of the LA Press Corp and was appointed Colonel on the staffs of Governors David Treen and Edwin Edwards. He served as an alderman for the City Of Zachary; president of the Zachary Rotary Club and chairman of the board of Zachary's Lane Memorial Hospital. Upon retirement the Brabstons moved to Linden Plantation in Vicksburg, MS, that had been in his family since 1827. He continued his civic endeavors, serving as president of the Vicksburg Rotary Club and United Way. He was an avid sportsman and hunter. Brabston is survived by his wife Joy Brabston and three children: Barbara Welsh (Darrel) of Baton Rouge, Bryan Willis Brabston III of Vicksburg, MS and Maura Jelliffe (Martin) of Ridgeland, MS and three grandchildren: Katie Moore (Jackson) of Knoxville, TN, Rebekkah Price (TJ) of Muscle Shoals, AL and Bryan Willis Brabston IV of Mobile, AL. Services will be held September 14th at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Bovina, MS; with visitation at the church at 10 a.m., and funeral at 11 a.m. with burial at his family cemetery on Linden Plantation.
