Carol Hopper Obituary

Carol Conerly Hopper, age 74, passed away on May 17, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born July 1, 1945 in Baton Rouge, the second of four children. Her father was the branch manager for Sealtest Foods while her mother ran the house. Carol graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1963 and earned her bachelor's degree in Education from LSU where she met Michael "Mike" Hopper. Mike and Carol married in 1967, Carol earned her master's, and the couple moved to Houston. Carol taught math and later became the Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Aldine Junior High. A few years after their first daughter was born the couple decided to move back home to Baton Rouge. In Baton Rouge Carol taught middle school math off and on while Mike worked at the Exxon plastics plant, and their second daughter was born. Carol made sure both of her children graduated high school with honors and were very involved in both church and school activities. Throughout her life Carol remained an avid sports fan, especially of LSU, the Saints, and the Astros. In her later years Carol enjoyed many an afternoon on the Amite River with her family, a book from her extensive home library, and the daily New York Times crossword puzzle. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, James and Evelyn "Dutch" Varnado Conerly. She is survived by her husband, Michael Hopper; daughter, Lindsay Hopper; daughter, Erin Rogers, her husband, Kendal, and their son, Hayden; older sister, Lelia Prange, and her husband Joseph; younger brother, James Conerly Jr., and his wife Betty; and younger sister, Jane Blades, and her husband Wesley. A private memorial service for the family will be held at Pine Ridge Methodist. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pine Ridge Methodist Church, 3893 Hwy 440, Kentwood, Louisiana 70444, or to a charity of your choice. Memories and Condolences
for Carol Hopper

Not sure what to say?

Dear Mr. Mike, Erin and Lindsay
y’all are in my prayers every day, even before news of Mrs. Carol. May God give you peace, comfort and perseverance. Our son was (to our surprise) born with Trisomy 18, we tried to fight for him but he had a heart condition which along with everything else took surgery off the table. After eleven days we took the advice of all involved and had them remove all life support. It was painful to depths which are impossible to explain. Most couples that lose a child separate and divorce, Chris and I love each other and fought the status quo to stay together. Two quotes got me and Chris to the goofy, somewhat mature and hardworking people we are today.

“One foot in front of the other, forward.”
&
“It’s ok that it’s not ok.”

I wish I could sit with you, do your laundry or cook for you. I’m so sorry y’all are going through this. Mrs. Carol was the sweetest Momma I’ve known other than my own, Her purple koolaid was the best, her smile; her giggle and her funny rise in her voice when she was confused by something ridiculous we had done, are just the top of the barrel of wonderful memories I have of her.
I know I’m very late to write this here and I apologize.
I have a homemade card, letter and picture collage for you. In the midst of Myrissa’s graduation (valedictorian) my boys found it, fought over and his from each other.
I found yesterday and hopped in the car to hand deliver it only to discover Mr. Mike moved.

This overwhelmed me with searching for contact info and I stumbled upon this.
Please please please with spaghettio’s and green milk on top, which you have to eat all of cause I’m keto for life, please contact me
If for no other reason than to give me an address so I can mail the card offering thoughts, memories and condolences or your sweet Wife and Momma.
[email protected]
Y’all are some of the strongest people I have known in my life, y’all are gonna find a new normal and be ok. You got this. Mr. Mike, you’ve always been an inspiration to get up and work out no matter what, no excuses. Lindsay you are tough as nails and you inspire me daily to never give up.
Erin, you made me a better person, I was a jerk as a kid but you put up with me and to this day I practice you graciousness everywhere I go.
Please don’t forget to contact me. Pretty please.
Sincerely,
Myranda Clark Mayo

Mike, Lindsay and Erin, Jamie, Lacey, John and I are so saddened by your loss. I have known your wife and mother since first grade at Belfair Elementary in Baton Rouge. Jamie met Carol at LSU and taught with her at Glen Oaks Junior High in Baton Rouge and again at Teague Middle School in Houston. It is not often that people are able to maintain friendships as long as we did with Carol. She was a truly an amazing and important person in our lives and will be terribly missed.

Mike, I'm so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Carol starting in the second grade. We lived around the corner from each other and in fact I delivered her parents their paper. She was always a very sweet young lady always caring for others. She will be missed by many. Gods Blessing be with you and your family!!

Dear Mike,
So sorry for your great loss. I hope there is consolement in the following verses : "For He himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." - Psalm 103 : 14 - , and Lamentations 3 : 21 - 26, but especially 3 : 24 "The LORD is my portion", says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him." I am so sorry to hear of Carols passing. She was my best friend in high school and in our first few years at LSU. She was a great friend and we had lots of fun spending our free time together, going to games, drive-in movies, Thunderbird beach, etc. Even though I havent seen her since college, I often think of her and remember our friendship. Our lives took different paths after we married, but she always had a special place in my heart. My condolences to you Mike, your daughters and the rest of the family. We will see her again.

Mike, Lindsay, Erin, Kendal and Hayden -- We have been so saddened to hear that Carol is not here on earth with us any longer. We know how much she was looking forward to being closer to you, Erin, and your family, so our hearts hurt with you that that won't happen now. Thank you for sharing such wonderful stories of the ways she loved you generously. I like what Dorthey said about the flowers in Heaven getting more meticulous care because of Carol's presence there. I can totally imagine that being the case and after seeing your yard, I hope my place in Heaven is next door so I can enjoy that view! We will keep you all in our prayers as you walk into these next chapters of life.

Carol was a wonderful sister n law. She was full of fun, books & she loved her family very much. I will miss her & all she did to help me after my husband passed away. Michael supported me during my time in helping me with his twin brother, Melvin. Forever grateful & she will be missed by so many.

Carol lived her life well ... she showed love by giving help to those who needed care, and enjoyed her family and friends. She loved working in her yard. I know the plants and flowers in Heaven will be even more beautiful as they receive her meticulous care. She will be missed.
