Eloise Brown Obituary

Eloise DeRouen Brown, 83, passed away in Baton Rouge, LA on Friday, January 11, 2019. She was born in New Orleans, LA on June 23, 1935 to Claire and E.J. DeRouen. Claire married Frank B. Amedeo, Sr., her loving step-father, when Eloise was 5 years old. She attended LSU Baton Rouge where she met Harley C. Brown. They married in New Orleans in 1955. Harley and Eloise resided in Shreveport for the next ten years. During that time Eloise gave birth to six children. Harley's employer transferred the family to Baton Rouge in 1965. At the age of 32 Eloise returned to LSU and earned a B.S. in Elementary Education, and eventually earned a Master's degree in Education, followed by an Education Specialist Certification in 1986. She taught in the East Baton Rouge Parish public school system for a few years and later moved to the position of Guidance Counselor at Bernard Terrace Elementary. She was active in the Louisiana Counseling Association, including serving as President. "Mrs. Brown" positively impacted students, parents and faculty during her tenure as Guidance Counselor at Bernard Terrace Elementary. Eloise enjoyed travel, literature, theater, and coloring, but, more than anything, she loved nurturing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brown; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank B. (Jean) Amedeo, Jr. and Robert (Nancy) Amedeo.; sister, Janet Snyder. Eloise was preceded by her parents, E.J. DeRouen, Claire and Frank B. Amedeo, Sr. and son, Gregory M. Brown. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 16, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Green Oaks Funeral Home, and visitation before the Funeral Mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday, January 17 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, 11441 Goodwood Blvd, 70815. To Harley and Family,
I am so saddened to learn Eloise has passed away. No matter the time that passed between our visits, it was if I was a part of the family that never left and time did not exist. She was such a beacon of joy, laughter and such an easy person to love. Her kindnesss and religious faith will be an everlasting testimony to the ones so blessed to have known her. May the heavens open their gates to welcome her and may God keep you all in the palms of his hands. Love, Melinda Miller Kent
