Percy Quin Brister Jr. "PQ", (80), a resident of Gillsburg, MS., and formerly of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2018 at his home. Visitation will be at Gillsburg Baptist Church beginning at 9:00 AM Friday September 21, 2018 with services at 11 AM. His son Daryl Wayne Brister and Dr. Victor Walsh will officiate. A graveside service will be held at Greenoaks Memorial Park 9425 Florida BLVD in Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday September 22, 2018 at 10 AM where family and friends from Baton Rouge are invited to attend. Percy was born October 6, 1937, in Ruth, MS to the late Percy Quin Brister Sr., and Debbie Louise Dunn Brister. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother George Robert Brister and his son-in-law Dennis E. "Rusty" McClendon. Percy was a former member of Lanier Baptist Church in Baton Rouge and a current member of Gillsburg Baptist Church where he taught the Men's Sunday school. Percy worked for the Baton Rouge Fire Department for 32 years where he was a fireman and a paramedic. He accomplished the rank of Captain and managed the crew of Station No. 4 in the years before he retired. After retirement, Percy moved back to Mississippi. He enjoyed spending time at his camp in the Atchafalaya Swamp for 27 years where he crawfished for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, carving, laughing, helping others, telling tall tales of his exploits as a young man, over a good cup of coffee. Percy is survived by his wife Norma Sue Tanner Brister of 60 years, one son Daryl Wayne Brister and wife Barbara, two daughters, Trina Brister McClendon and Melanie Sue Brister and grandchildren Brenton Wayne Brister, Ethan Joel Brister, Kaitlynn Alyse Brister and Dallas Quin McClendon, one great-grandson, Maddox Quin Latta, one Brother, Gwin Martin Brister, and many nieces and nephews. Percy loved his family and cared for each of them to the best of his ability. He raised them to love God and love others. Percy also loved his crew of fireman and their families who were like an extended family to him. He treated these men like his sons; watching over them, giving them advice, and above all, keeping them safe in the midst of a fire. He had fond memories of all his lifelong friends in Baton Rouge and later the friends he made in Gillsburg. Pallbearers will be Tommy Smith, Charles Harrell, Lewis Busby, James Clark, Jeffery Wall and Dennis Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Station 4 Crew: Howard Ward, Danny Adams, Danny Rome and Bubbie Bagents.
