I met Mr. Toldson as a student at George Rogers Clark school no 1. He was my shop teacher and I am happy to know he belonged there no more than i did. He was one of the first black males i ever met. Even as a 7th and 8th grader I was impressed with his beautiful voice and quiet intelligence. How amazing to see what he accomplished in his life. The last time i saw him he had asked me to come to school to answer questions and do some testing. It all makes sense now. He was preparing for his future. Great teachers stay in your memory forever. Thank you Mr. Toldson

Dr. Ivory Toldson was one of my favorite professors while attending Southern University. I was enrolled in his psychology class in 1975. He was scholarly, gentlemanly, and student-centered. He inspired me to pursue and secure the doctorate at Texas A&M. His legacy will live on through his loving family and the many students whose lives he touched. I keep his 'Roots of Soul' on the top shelf in my Home Library. Moreover, I look forward to reacquaintance with him in the glorious resurrection.

To Mrs. Frances Toldson and Family:
I met DR. Toldson as a student. It was the first 1X per week class I ever had and it was on Wednesday nights for 3 hours AND I was pledging! What I learned helped me with the children I've worked with for the last 36 years. It was in that class that I drew something for a presentation and Dr. Toldson remembered that and had me do some art work for a presentation for his class. Fast forward some 20 years later he asked me to illustrate one of his books-- STOLEN INNOCENSE. That was hard but fun and he gave me leeway to draw the characters the way I wanted. So it is no accident that the doctor in the book resembles him quite a bit.
I will remember him as a man of proud heritage, an intelligent person and a kind heart. Though his voice boomed, I did not hear it raised but I heard his words reason. My dad, who was his coworker at SU, held him in high regard as well.
I pray that you all find comfort in God's promises--that where he is is home where there is no more sickness and we will gather together again and say good bye never again.
God bless you!

Dear family,
It is with profound sorrow that I write you this message. Dr Toldson was both a mentor and friend when I attended grad school in Philadelphia in 1973. Under his tutelage, he created strong Black leaders able to continue successfully in our struggle for economic parity and independence as a race. My husband, Dr. Martin Ryder had the distinct pleasure of returning that blessing to Ivory Jr when he attended school in Philadelphia. Please be assured that God is with you and your family during your time of bereavement and that He will continue to bless and keep you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Martin & Janet Hammond Ryder (Temple U. 1974)

The one word that comes to mind when we think about the Toldson family is KINDNESS!! Days, Months, & sometime Years would pass between our speaking to each other... but those meetings would always be just as though time stood still. We are deeply sadden at the going home of Dr. Toldson for he will be missed.... But joyful in that we know the kindness he had was God, therefore the father smiles on him on that heavenly mountain above. We send our sincere deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to you in this your time of sorrow. May God give you his abundant peace and strength.
