A native of Baton Rouge and resident of Omaha, NE, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. He was 70 years old. Services will be held at New Salem Baptist Church, Omaha, on Friday, January 25, 2013. Anderson was born Dec. 23, 1943. He graduated from McKinley Sr. High School in 1962 and from Southern University in 1967, where he played a great role in having Southern's Men's track and field team voted the number 1 collegiate team of the decade (1960-1969). He was passionately known by all who knew and loved him as "Log", a phenomenal "World Class Sprinter". The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Anderson for his speed, and he played for the semi-professional Omaha Mustangs of the Continental Football League. He leaves to cherish his wife Ola Mae Anderson of Omaha; three sons; Eric Anderson, Marcus (Michelle) Anderson both of Omaha, and George (Amy) Anderson, III of Lincoln, NE, 5 siblings; Beverly Anderson Green and William Anderson of Omaha, Dr. Donald Anderson of Baton Rouge, Dr. Leon Anderson of Detroit, and Lee Earl Anderson of Denver, six grandchildren, Kendall, Joshua, Michael, Camille, McKenzie and Caeleb and a host of relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents. The family of George "Log" Anderson would like to send a special acknowledgement to Coach Richard "Dick" Hill, McKinley Sr. High School Class of 1962 and the 1962-67 Southern University Men's Track and Field Team. Please send any acknowledgements to Roeder Mortuary, 2727 North 108th St., Omaha, NE 68164.

He coached two of our daughters in summer track, Shaina and Jessica Owens. And they just loved him. My mother worked with him at Encore many many years ago. He was funny and kept everyone laughing, he would stop by our house on Christmas and Buy pound cakes and sweet potato pies. Rest In Peace from the Owens Family

I played with George in the early 70's with the Mustangs. I learned a lot from George and we had some great laughs together. He would line up for a play and tell the DB to back up because he was going deep. It didn't matter how far back he would go, George would run right by him laughing. He is still the most beautiful runner I have ever seen. It's been 40 years since we played together and I still talk about him. Sounds like you had a very rewarding life George, you touched many lives. I plan on looking you up someday.

To Ola, Eric, GeGe, Marcus:
George "Log" was such an important person in my life. He was always so kind & gentle to me. I never realized how humble he was about all his lifes accomplishments. He was the only papa my daughter with Gege ever knew in this life & he will be missed so very much. I know that he'll be our angel in Heaven & will be watching over us all. Every day he is with us - we just have to pay attention to the little signs around us. God has taken him for now to spend eternity with Him in Heaven but we will all see him when God calls us home. Papa George will be waiting at Heaven's gate for us. May God bless you all & we'll continue to pray for the family. Love & prayers to you because God is Great.

I last saw GA at North's Homecoming game this past August, He teased me about 'getting old' because my son is now a senior in high school. Whenever I would visit North or he would come down to Workforce Development he would always make me laugh.
He will be missed, and may the peace of God be upon you all at this time.

Mrs. Ola Anderson and Family,
Besides the heart ache and grief I felt with Mr. Anderson's passing, the first thought that came to mind was "our loss; heaven's gain."
What a wonderful, comical individual. I'm going to miss his laughter, "dry" jokes and his grand illusion of "being the man of his house." Mr. Anderson brought joy to soooo many people. I thank God for his acquaintance.
May your hearts continue to be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
God be with you during this time of sorrow. Much love to the Anderson family,
