Eleanor Fraenkel Obituary

Eleanor Lesser Fraenkel passed away on the morning of March 6, in the sunlight of her living room on Nob Hill in her favorite city, San Francisco. She was 84. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, to Isadore and Tillie Lesser, she attended Ashley Hall, a distinguished high school for young women, where she was chosen President of her senior class. Ellie then attended Newcomb College in New Orleans until her marriage in 1954 to Albert Fraenkel II. They were married for 63 years and 364 days. She had an incredibly lucky life, and her years were filled with happiness and accomplishments. After living for five years in Shreveport, Louisiana, she and Albert moved to Baton Rouge in 1959 to found the Fraenkel Company, a furniture manufacturer and distributor. During her 30 years in Baton Rouge she and two partners founded Fiddlers III, a company that designed and fabricated semi-precious jewelry. Ellie loved fashion, art, reading, bridge, ballet, and travel. She enjoyed countless trips to Israel and the Middle East, many during her service as a national board member of United Jewish Appeal, Women's Division. She is survived by her husband Albert Fraenkel II, son Jeffrey (Alan Mark), daughter Marien Grace, grandchildren Noah and Linnea Sablosky, all of California, her brother-in-law and his wife Francis and Frances Fraenkel of New York, and her faithful dachshund, Magnolia. Private family services were held on March 9 at Fernwood in Mill Valley, California. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 11am at Congregation B'nai Israel in Baton Rouge. Should your heart dictate, contributions in Ellie's memory may be made to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, P.O. Box 45830, Baton Rouge, La 70895; or to Congregation B'nai Israel, 3354 Kleinert Avenue, Baton Rouge, La 70806.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
