Retired nurse and resident of Baton Rouge died at 1:43p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She was 84 and a native of Cordova, Alabama. Visitation will be in the Dunham Chapel at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 12:00p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1:00p.m. conducted by Senior Pastor Gerrit Dawson. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park will be immediately following the funeral. Mrs. Goebel is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Norman Karl Goebel Sr., her parents Edwin & Etta Belle Sandlin, a sister Billie Sandlin Blair and brother Robert Sandlin. She is survived by three sons and two daughters in law; Norman K. Goebel, Jr., Charles W. and Denny H. Goebel and Byron D. and Sally M. Goebel; five grandchildren, Jonathan D. Goebel, Ritchie K. Goebel, Sandlin G. Neely, Allison F. Goebel, and Sarah G. Goebel; 5 great-grandchildren Hayden, Rowan, Rodney, Margaret and Olivia, two sisters, Carolyn Sandlin Harron and Joan Sandlin Jacks, and an aunt, Alice Hyche. She graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing School in New Orleans, LA and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge. She worked as a nurse at various hospitals, schools and long-term care facilities. She loved the Lord and loved her family as well as many friends she made as she and her husband moved around the country throughout their married life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge or the National Alliance for Mentally Ill.

Barbara was a delightful person; always had a smile to greet me and was thoughtful and kind. As you grieve her loss, may you be comforted by her life and love for you all. May God grant you peace and comfort now.
