Sammye Maria Fazio Carter, 71, of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Born September 3, 1948 in Beaumont, Texas, to Sam and Bertha Fazio, she lived and worked in Baton Rouge for the past 33 years where she retired from AT&T. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Carter and her parents. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses Carl and Lois Carter, Debbie and Mike Pierson, Charles Carter Sr., Cheryl and Ed Hillebrandt, James Carter, Sherri and Henry Shelton, and Brenda and Robin Pilcher; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and Daniel Hidalgo, Candace and Mark Matak, Charlie and Autumn Howard, Drew Carter, Mellissa and Amanda Carter, Colin, Garrett and Chaz Carter, Colton, Gracie and Justin Carter and Josh and Ben Pilcher. She also had 10 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly Cara, Austin, and Ryan Matak; Ava and Max Hidalgo; Cady, Jodyn, and Charlie Howard; Evlyn and Laney Carter. Our family would like to thank the incredible care givers and Baton Rouge Hospice for the kindness, compassion, support and love shown during our mother's illness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the ALS Association.

Oh Sammye, you were such a light in my life. I loved your laugh and sense of humor. You were always special to me. Im so glad I was able to visit you and give you a special rosary that I made for you. Im so happy for you, that you arent suffering anymore. ❤
