Nancy Anne Dunn Burns passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Austin, Texas. She was born on Oct. 25, 1955, in Baton Rouge to Clarence Leo and Barbara Yerby Dunn, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband, Brad Burns; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Daniela Burns, and their children, Ella and Nik; a daughter and son-in-law, Elise and Taylor Oatman, and their sons, Stuart and Parker; brothers, John Dunn, Richard Dunn and wife Ann, of Baton Rouge, and their five children; a sister, Jane and Dan Wallace, of Richmond, Va., and their three children; and a stepmother, Janet Lessard Dunn. Nancy graduated from University High School in Baton Rouge in 1973. She graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in quantitative methods from LSU. She graduated with honors with a master's degree in computer science from The University of North Florida. Nancy worked for IBM in Austin for more than 20 years with many wonderful colleagues as a systems analyst and software engineer and with the IBM University Scholars Program. A special joy was the noon bridge game that was a special respite from sometimes stressful projects. Nancy was involved in many activities. She was a member of "the Bunco Group" that started when she first moved to Austin in the mid-'80s and had been a source for creating lasting warm friendships. She was also active in the Austin Catholic Scripture Study and served as leader for her group. She again developed outstanding friendships that fueled her love for God and his creation. She spent countless hours volunteering and coordinating for her children's sports teams and school activities in addition to working full time and smoothly running a large household. Through her children's activities more dear friends were met. The family is immensely grateful for all the care, love and prayers given to us by friends, family, colleagues and neighbors as Nancy battled cancer. Nancy's greatest love was her family and in particular her four children, Chris, Elise, Stuart and Parker. The Dunn family always had high regard for education which she instilled in her children as well. In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested that you make donations to your local PTA or your university to continually broaden and improve education opportunities for all. A funeral Mass was held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Austin on Wednesday, May 20, with interment at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.

To the family of Nancy Dunn Burns,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Please know that I hold you all close in my thoughts and heart, and pray for your comfort and peace. Though I've not seen any of you in more moons than I can count, I do think of the old neighborhood often and of our family's close relationship with yours.
Love to all,
