Remembering this day is difficult for me, at the same time I know it's when Hazel left to join her loved ones who were waiting for her in Heaven.
I thought a lot about all the things we did together over the years, I think of her often because she made me feel as if I were her daughter, not just a daughter-in-law. This morning's memory is of the time we went crawfishing with Sydney and Randall. Hazel and I took off in the little boat together to check and rebait our traps. We loaded up and headed back in to unload our four big bags of crawfish when the boat began to sink...we had too many crawfish in the boat to support all the weight. We were yelling and flopping around trying to get rid of some of the crawfish without completely losing all of them before we got back to land. We made it with four bags FULL and Sydney and Randall were both laughing at us. I imagine it was quite a thing to see with both of us trying not to fall out of the boat, not lose the crawfish or drown. And we made it!!!!! One of the best times I ever had and here it is 30 or 40 or more years later and I'm still laughing about it.
She also taught me how to cook! I didn't know how to boil water (Randall said that) until she and Sydney showed me how to cook their way. Sydney made one of the best Red Roasts I've ever eaten in my life...and his spaghetti was awesome!!! Anything Hazel cooked was perfect in every way!
Rest in peace Hazel and I hope to see you again one day, to hold you close, and tell you how much I still love you.

My deepest condolences to all of the family on the loss of this loving lady. I will always be thankful for the time I had as her daughter-in-law, and all the wonderful times we shared over the years. She was so loving and always made me feel as if I was one of her children, not just a daughter-in-law. I had some of the most wonderful times of my life with Hazel and Sidney. I'm so thankful for having had her in my life for so many years. Rest in peace with your loved ones who went before you.
