A resident of Zachary, he died Friday, October 12, 2012 at his home. He was 79 years old and was retired from the US Navy. Visiting will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc in Zachary on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. conducted by Pastor Homer Parish. Burial will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Peggy J. Barksdale. A daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Homer Parish, Chesapeake, VA. 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Ray J. and Angie Steele, Albany, LA; Vincent Barksdale, Oxnand, CA and Eugene and Shirley Barksdale, Lakewood, CA. 2 sisters, Fairy Day, Denham Springs and Velenia Freeman, Baton Rouge. A grandson, Christian E. Callaway, Chesapeake, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Odie Barkdull and an infant brother.
