Remembering a community friend & brother Chief Robin Hurst
Tuesday March 6, 2018 the Fire Service of Louisiana loss a true friend and a community leader and a brother Chief Robin Hurst of the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
I've known Chief Hurst for the past twenty-five years in the Fire Service. Chief Hurst and I attended many Louisiana Fire Chief's Association Conferences together, where we both have served as Presidents of the Louisiana Chief's Association. Everyone who met Chief Hurst knew that he was a very special person. No matter where you were across this State, if you heard of Chief Hurst, the following words would arrive in your mind Compassion, Gentleness and Endurance.
Chief Hurst brought life to everything and touched every heart that he ever met. Everyone who met Chief Hurst knew he was a special person. He touched many lives in so many groups he belonged too. Served as Fire Chief in Baton Rouge from 1996-2002 and grew up through the ranks where he served in the Baton Rouge Fire Department for over 22 years before retiring and going to work for Ferrara Firefighting out of Holden Louisiana.
Chief Hurst had a unique quality in that he could make anyone feel special in the Fire Service. Chief brought life to everything and touched every heart that he met. His very outspoken leadership and influence, usually behind the scenes was phenomenal. He dedicated himself to helping others and never expected anything in return.
Chief Hurst had a unique quality in that he could make anyone feel special. He knew exactly how to give people what they needed somehow and he would give this to you in the best way possible for you. This could be a kind word or something he gave to encourage you along the way. Chief Hurst always knew how to reach people in the way that would touch their hearts and connect with them. And before you knew it, you would be connecting right back.
Chief Robin Hurst you have indeed made the supreme sacrifice to make the quality of life better for all of us in the State of Louisiana. May you rest in peace for eternity knowing that you have a very loving wife Ms. Kaye and two wonderful children Jeremy & Shannon and several grandchildren to carry on the love and continued sacrifice that you made every day you opened your eyes.
Yes, I will miss our hallway talks at the LFCA Conferences, your disarming smile, great sense of humor that allowed you to quickly and effortlessly befriend just about every person you ever met. Young and old, family, friend, neighbor If you were a warm body and crossed Chief Robin Hurst path He was your friend. He had such friendly, warm, upbeat, positive, non-judgmental and endearing personality.
It was fun, adventuresome and always exciting to be your friend Chief Robin Hurst, we will all miss your mentoring, and our one on one talks.
To the entire Hurst Family, thank you so much for sharing Chief Robin Hurst with this fire service family for so many years. We are all better, because of Chief Hurst Enthusiasm, Determination and Loyalty.
REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER!
