To Navorro and family,
I know that it's a very difficult time right now for you and your family, but have faith in knowing that God will give you the strength to see it through. My prayers are with you all. I witnessed the long hours and dedication that your father put in on building your home and his; what a powerful memory that is for you guys. What a bond of love between father and son I also witnessed. I didn't get the opportunity to know Pastor Bailey personally, but he certainly exemplified the character of a great man.

It's so hard to believe my Uncle June is gone. I can't absorb this into my brain yet. He wasn't the average uncle. He was AMAZING. HE WAS EVERYTHING TO US BEYOND MEASURE. It was 15 of us, and we could all be together and he made each and every one of us feel important and special. He loved everyone. He was the peace maker of the family. Every time he and I talked, he always ended with I love you, as did I. He always had something funny to say about you when he saw you. Sometimes he had to laugh at it himself. He had that loud deep voice. He used to tell his sisters that he was the oldest, even though he was next to the baby. He loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own children and we knew it. We were all treated equally. He raised 4 sons and grandson to be men. He taught them skills and he recreated with them. He was an excellent grandfather and wonderful husband. Life will never be the same without him. We will honor his wishes and keep the family together in love and peace. He was our King.

My uncle died. Just typing these words somehow makes it real. Born child #5 of 6. Only boy. My mom's only brother. Husband, father of 4 boys, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was EVERYTHING to us. He was the uncle. He was our only (maternal) uncle. Growing up, he was the uncle who would drive across the river on Independence Day to purchase us fire crackers to pop and then take us to the levee to see the fireworks show later that evening. He was the uncle who would hand-make us games out of wood and take the games and us to Howell Park to play. He was the uncle who would line us up and take us individually for a ride on the back of his motorcycle. He was the uncle who would invite us over to his home to play Atari, and eventually Nintendo. He even had the power pad. I played or at least attempted to play pool for the very first time and his home. His game room was the bomb. I even remember seeing Michael Jackson's Thriller video for the very first time at his home. Scared me senseless.

He opened his home to me and offered to host my wedding shower. For my wedding, he escorted my mom down the aisle. He was always there for us. He was ALWAYS there. It is hard to imagine a life without him in it.

To the world, he was Charles Edward Bailey , Sr. To us, he was our Uncle June, and that name was synonymous with fun. Each time I would see him, he would make some smart comment about what I would have posted on Facebook. For he was one who wouldn't comment, but would read every single post.

Fortunately, he visited me the day he passed. Of course he made a funny comment about a Facebook post my oldest sister had made a day or two prior. We joked about how my car was parked in my mom's parking spot and he even gave me some instructions on how I needed to get me some blue tape when he noticed a paint roller in the back of my car. I told him that I would talk with him later, and he drove off. Hours later he was found at his home unable to be revived.

He was funny, even when was was not trying to be. He was our Uncle June. We were his girls. He loved his nieces. We definitely loved him and fortunately he knew it.

Your niece,

Shalonda Wallace Golden
