Alton Lionel Stafford, 83, of Ventress LA, passed away on February 6th, 2019. 'Lionel' was born January 30, 1936 in Hammond LA, the third of five children to Carter Allen Stafford Sr and Wincie Kyzar Stafford. He grew up in Baton Rouge LA, attending Baton Rouge High, and was a member of the Basketball State Championship team in 1954. Lionel worked 30 years for Western Electric which changed to AT&T then Lucent Technologies. He was the President of his local union, CWA 3290, before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed the rest of his life, fishing for sac-a-lait on False River and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Carter Allen Stafford Sr, his mother Wincie Kyzar Stafford, and his sister Faye Stafford Stewart. He is survived by his brothers Carter Stafford JR of Marksville, Gary Stafford of Ventress and Ronnie Stafford of Ventress. He leaves behind his wife, Betsy Pearce Stafford of Ventress, and his daughters Peggy Stafford Guerin (Lee Guerin) of Rougon, Vicki Stafford Marshall of Ventress, Ashley Stafford Collins of Fordoche, and Wendi Stafford Hebert (Johnny Hebert) of Zachary, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and so many friends who will miss him dearly. He asked that his remains be donated to LSU School of Science. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb 16th at St. Paul's Holy Trinity in New Roads LA. Visitation begins at 12:30pm, with church service at 2:00pm, reception to follow in church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in his name.

I knew Lionel at BR High. He was really a nice guy and I liked him a lot.

Betsy, our family is lifting your family up on the home going of Lionel. I know this is a difficult time and we are so sorry because of health situations that we cannot be with you on Saturday.
