In 1974 I met Dr. Noggle. Craig Baughman and I would go to his condominium and play bridge with him and Jannie (professor at Southern University). We would also play tennis. Craig and I had very little disposable income and were very thankful for their generosity. While we offered to bring items when we visited, they would always provide food and drink. We were in our late 20's at that time. We really enjoyed his company.

Dr. Noggle was a great teacher - in the classroom and as a mentor. Condolences to his wife and all of his family.

Dear Kate,
I just learned about Burl's passing. I was thinking of you two just last week. Strange. He was a great man, a true thinker, a fine friend. I hope to come down to Louisiana for the December memorial if I can.
Love,
Ed Muir

Kate:
Paul Paskoff just fowarded me the news. Burl was my first friend when I came to LSU over 40 years ago now. In fact, when I got Paul's email, I was re-reading a Travis McGee novel, which series Burl introduced me to all those years ago. As he introuced me to Raymond Chandler and Faulkner and so many more. Fond memories flooding back now as I remember my friend.

Please accept my condolences and best wishes, Kate, and to all his family. And in a bit, I'll pour a shot of bourbon or two, and spend more time remembering him... and smiling.
