Frances Webb Obituary

Frances Dean Dunaway Webb, age 77, passed away on April 15, 2018 in Baton Rouge LA. A native of Ruth, MS, she was a long-time resident of Gonzales, LA. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home at 13533 Airline Highway in Gonzales, LA on Tuesday, April 17 from 10am-1pm, followed by a 1pm service at the home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Her sweet spirit, kind heart, joyful "picking" and penchant for hugs made her a friend to all. A life-long educator, Fran spent her professional teaching career at Glasgow and Kenilworth Junior High Schools and Galvez Primary School. After she retired from teaching, her "mother hen" nature and her inability to sit still led her to continue working as office managers in a variety of settings, including Uniroyal and the Teamsters. She was a proud organizer of information, events, and people, and quickly made herself indispensable. Fran was a community builder wherever she went. She loved meeting people, whether in line at the grocery store or sitting in the "chemo lounge" during her battles with cancer. If she got to talking to you long enough, she'd discover that you were probably a distant cousin - which she could often prove, given her love for investigating genealogy. Even in her final days, she was bringing together friends and family, both new and old, from near and far. Her genuine sweetness led to the formation of new relationships and to re-establishment of old ones. She is survived by her husband, Elsley Webb, Jr.; daughter, Carlen Pool Floyd (and Beaman); stepdaughters Cathlene Crain (and Mark) and Tanya Webb Byrd; stepson Tee El Webb (and Robbie); two brothers, Jerry Dunaway and Clay Dunaway (and Kelle); six grandchildren (Katherine and Anna Floyd, Mynde Webb Breed, Mitzi Webb Jarreau, Mason and Mitch Crain, Caynan Byrd) and 9 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Nadine Dunaway, brother Marvin Dunaway, and sister Kathryn McKey. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in her name to Cancer Services of Great Baton Rouge or The Carpenter House with St. Joseph Hospice. Special thanks for the extra love and care extended by Dr. John Fraiche, Dr. David Hanson, the entire medical and nursing staff at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Gonzales, and the Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. She would have loved for you to share a good story or memory by visiting www.oursofh.com and leaving your thoughts.
