"Be not afraid, I go before you always, come follow me and I will give you rest." Frederick Theophile Landry went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 4, 2018. Fred was born in Klotzville, Louisiana, on April 29, 1921. He was the third child of his parents Celestine Marie Landry and Frederick Peter Landry. His country home, where he was born and grew up, is still standing today. Along with his family, this home and large piece of property was his pride and joy. Fred kept a constant eye on his Klotzville home to make sure the house and property was well taken care of. Even in his 90s he loved riding the land on his tractor and keeping things in order. After graduating from high school, Fred entered the Coast Guard and served during WWII. If you had time to listen, he enjoyed sharing with you stories from his service years. One incident he would tell about is the time his ship came under kamikaze attack. He was very patriotic, loved his country and always flew his American Flag. After returning home from the war, Fred settled in New Orleans where he met the love of his life Varina Portier Robichaux. They were married for over 50 years. Fred and Vee had one son, Freddie Jr. Fred went to work for Boh Bros. Construction Company and eventually transferred from New Orleans to Baton Rouge in 1971 to help manage the construction work of Interstate 10. He retired with 50 plus years of service. Those who knew Fred knew his strong work habit and the passion he had for his job. He not only enjoyed his job but also his company. He and his wife Varina (Vee) along with their son Freddie settled into the Baton Rouge community quickly. He and Vee were strong L.S.U. and Saints supporters. They loved their "road trips" with friends while supporting the Tigers! Fred lived a long blessed life of 97 years! He stayed active and independent until the end. Everyone who knew him was amazed at his zest for life and his ability to keep active. He was truly "one of a Kind"! He was a very gently, loving and patient man and a blessing to others. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Varina (Vee) Landry, his mother Celestine Marie Landry, father Frederick Landry, and sister Lula Belle Melancon. Surviving members of his family are his son Frederick Landry Jr. and his wife Pam Landry, grandson Joshua Landry and his great-granddaughter Mia Landry; two sisters Myrtle Muller and Doris Sagers; along with many nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks to his caretaker Carol Powell, who not only took care of Fred but also Vee before she passed away. Carol took care of the family for 17 years! He will also be sorely missed by his neighbors of 47 years, Tom & Suzanne Fiske He was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 10, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Paincourtville, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 10-12 am with Mass being celebrated at 12 noon by Father Matthew Graham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a reception afterward in the Gym.

What an amazing person Uncle Fred was. We will all miss him so much. My family and I had many wonderful, happy times spent together over Christmas and LSU football games in Baton Rouge. Both he and Aunt Varina had a zest for life that was contagious! What a remarkable life he had and one that we should all strive to replicate. I wish I could have been there today to see you off in person. Please know I was there in thought and prayer. All my Love and admiration for all eternity.
