J. B. passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2015 surrounded by his family at Pointe Coupee Healthcare at the age of 86. He was the inventor and owner of Salter's Jiggin' Pole and Tackle Company for the last 35 years, a resident of Erwinville and a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting will be at Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 5 to 9pm and on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 8am until religious services at 10:30am, conducted by Pastor Ray Werline. Interment will follow at Erwinville Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty LeJeune Salter; daughter, Kelly S. LeJeune and husband Richard; sons, Terry Salter and wife Teresa, Kenny Salter and wife Gail, and James "Blaine" Salter, Jr. and fiancé Misty Maher; grandchildren, Nicholas Salter and wife Mica, Jeffrey Salter, Jake Salter, Kasie Salter, Ryan LeJeune, Preston Salter and Andrew Morvant; great grandchildren, Kollin Didier, Rylie Salter and Gracen Salter; nieces, Wanda and Robin; nephews, Steve and Jamie. Preceded in death by parents, J.J. and Nelloise Lester Salter; and brother, Weyman Salter, Sr.; and nephew, Weyman, Jr. J. B. was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed teaching his unique style of fishing throughout the South whether it was teaching a leisure class at LSU, attending Sporting Shows or taking freshwater guided trips. He has left his mark on the pan fishing industry in South Louisiana. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching all ages throughout the years. He served in the National Guard, and was an Ewrinville Volunteer Fireman. Owner and operator of family owned Salter's Café, Salter's Truck Stop and Salter's Western Auto and Sporting Goods.
