Marie Louise Pierce Jones born February 25, 1918 died Thursday, March 21, 2013. Daughter of the late Louis J. Pierce and Noel Banks Pierce. Sister of David J. Pierce (Cynthia), Walter L. C. Pierce (Charlene), James M. Pierce and the late Edith Pierce Saizan. Sister-in-law of the late Darrel Saizan Sr., and Cynthia Pierce. Former sister in-law of Gloria Blakes. Mother of Harrison B. Jones, Jr. and the late Elizabeth A. Jones. Wife of the late Harrison B. Jones, Sr. she will be greatly missed by generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends. She was an educator who served in the Orleans Parish Public School System for 50 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, and earned her B. A. from Dillard University and M. Ed. in special education from Wayne State University in Michigan. She was an Associate Professor in Education at Dillard University for twenty years, and volunteered with the Red Cross Association to assist in the education of the visually impaired and mentally challenged. While she was the principal at McDonogh 24 Elementary, the school maintained several special education classes including those for emotionally disturbed, hearing impaired, and visually impaired students. She was an active member at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church and served there as a lector, advisory council member, and on several committees. One of her proudest moments was receiving the Order of St. Louis from Archbishop Hughes. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 4700 Pineda St. @ Louisa St., NOLA for 11:30 a.m. Interment is in St. Louis #3 Cemetery.
