A committed, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, was called back to the Lord on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the age of 92. He was a native of Bexley, England, and was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Alan P. Darvill was married to Phyllis Spalding for 66 wonderful years. He attended Erith College on a scholarship for mechanical engineering but could not complete his studies due to the start of WWII. Alan was called to serve with the British Army as a machinist for Vickers Armstrong, constructing machine barrels for the Spitfire aircrafts. After the war, he went on to work for the Southeastern Gas Board in England and then British Petroleum. In 1970, he was offered a job by Royal Dutch Shell to go to Puerto Rico to start and operate a new plant. Alan and his family lived in Puerto Rico for six years from 1970 to 1976. In the latter part of 1976, Exxon Mobil offered him a position in Baton Rouge, LA, to construct and operate a POX plant. He adored the southern people and the culture and was one of the few people that loved his career that supported his family. Alan's favorite pastime was going off-shore fishing and playing dominoes. Alan is survived by his wife, Phyllis Spalding Darvill; daughter, Susan Percy; sons, Gerard Darvill and wife Donna, and John Darvill; grandchildren, Lauren Krafft and husband Brucker, Ashley Dierich and husband Ryan, and Justin and Corey Darvill; great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Jameson; brothers, Peter and Michael Darvill; and numerous other family members. Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Edith Darvill. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, August 13, 2018, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Visitation will resume at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, from 9:30AM until the time of funeral services at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Blake at The Grove, The Hospice of Baton Rouge, Dr. Carl Luikart and Dr. Kenyetta Shamblin. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.greenoaksfunerals.com.
