HAYSBERT SR., ALEX M. A retired athletic equipment manager for Southern University and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 82, a native of Louisiana and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Bethel AME Church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Herman O. Kelly. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Haysbert; a son and daughter-in-law, Alex Haysbert Jr. and Muriel; grandchild, Alex Haysbert III; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his father, Willie Haysbert; mother, Addie Barrow Haysbert Andrews; stepfather, David Andrews; brother, Charles Haysbert; and a sister, Mildred Haysbert Brown. He was a graduate of McKinley High School and Southern University. He was enshrined in the SU Sports Hall of Fame, was a life member of SU Alumni Federation and a member of the SU Letterman's Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Bethel AME Church Building Fund or to the Southern University Foundation, Alex Haysbert Sr. Scholarship Fund.
