Nell died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, August 11, 2018 at her home in Austin, TX. She was born in Alexandria, LA on December 31st, 1930 to S.E. and Hortense Richardson. She grew up in Alexandria and Pineville. Nell was a graduate of Bolton High School and Northwestern State University where she attained a Bachelor degree in Education. She began her teaching career at Sulphur High School where she met a young coach just beginning his career, Jack Doland. They married in October of 1952 and were together for 39 years until his death in 1991. Nell taught at several schools in Calcasieu Parish during her teaching career and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority. She also spent time teaching in Baton Rouge at Glasgow Junior High while Jack was an assistant coach at LSU. Nell was an avid gardener. She was a member of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, S.E. and Hortense Richardson; her brothers, James Earl Richardson and Edwin Richardson, and her husband, Dr. Jack Doland. She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Doland Bruce and her husband Robert of Baton Rouge and Connie Doland of Austin, TX and her two granddaughters, Jackie Hartle and husband Gary and Heather Farrar and husband Tate. Nell had 4 great grandchildren that were the light of her life, Zyla Farrar, Georgia Hartle, Chelsea Hartle, and Emerson Farrar. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 at St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend John Robert Black will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles. Visitation Wednesday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the church.
