Born July 20, 1946, he died at home on Saturday, July 4, 2015. He was 68 and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University Paul M Hebert Law Center, a winner of the Moot Court Trial Competition and member of the Law Center Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Ben retired in 2011 after forty years as a lawyer. During his undergraduate years at LSU, Ben was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. An avid sportsman, he spent most of his life enjoying hunting, fishing and riding dirt bikes. His love of the outdoors was the source of much pleasure and he supported numerous wildlife and habitat conservation programs. He had a passion for books and knowledge and had the ability to converse on any subject with astounding recall. When a question arose among those who knew him it was always, "ask Ben." Ben always said, "The law was what I did and not who I was." Ben's many hobbies included music and his love of the steel guitar. Survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy Ewell Day and son, Adam Ewell Day, to whom he dedicated his love. He is also survived by his daughter in law, Shanna and granddaughter, Mikayla Marie; brother Dennis Day and sister in law, Claudia; nieces Amanda Treadway, Kattie Peyton and great niece Ava Marie Treadway; nephew Louis Russell "Rusty" Day and wife Wendy; and his beloved pets, Joe Boy, Belle and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Katherine Day. Pall bearers will be Adam Ewell Day, Louis Russell Day, James 'Jimmy' Durbin, David Ziober, Drew Eversberg and Brad Boudreaux. In lieu of flowers donations to the Companion Animal Alliance, 2680 Progress, Road, Baton Rouge, La. 70807, Pet Aid, Inc., 417 Centreville Street, Denham Springs, LA 70826 or charity of choice would be an honor to Ben's memory. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 8, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street. The family will receive friends at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Cemetery.

I had the honor to be Ben's last secretary when he retired from law practice. It was an absolute honor to have known him and to work with him. He will be missed by many. He will always be remembered with fondness and admiration. My very deepest condolences to you, Judy and Family.

I knew Ben from my early years as an attorney. Sorry that I am only now seeing the notice and therefore missed the funeral. He was always so friendly and accessible as a colleague. The last time I saw him was at Christina's at lunch time. A great guy.

Judy & Adam, I am so very sad to hear of your loss. I wish I could be at the funeral. Ben was like a brother to me. I worked with him on legal matters starting around 1998 until he retired. When my wife, Donna, and daughter, Madison, needed to travel to Southeast Texas they flew into Baton Rouge and Ben was there to meet them and escorted them safely to the freeway. He even brought an Easter basket for my daughter who was not very old (she is now 18 years old). That is the kind of person Ben was - very caring and a gentleman. I admired Ben as an attorney but he was even a greater person than he was an attorney, which says a lot because Ben was an extremely attorney. Oddly and what must have been Devine intervention, I had called Ben on my way home from work last Thursday (I tried calling him every few months since he retired) and we had a great conversation. As always, he was up on current events and we discussed all of them. He ended our conversation by saying "I love you", which he never had before. I replied that I loved him too. Little did we both know those would be the last words we would say to each other. I will and do miss Ben a lot. Like I said, he was like a brother to me. Heaven is getting a great person! You both will be in the Pangburn family prayers and thoughts. - Michael

Such a great loss...I remember him from childhood school days and had the joy of seeing him as our careers crossed as adults; he was still that same charming, considerate and caring boy from our childhood, thoughtful of others and a purpose in life.

To the Day family,
Ben was one of the great people I had the honor to meet and know. He was an older frat brother that I greatly admired for his smarts and quick wit. We worked together at McCollister, Belcher, McCleary & Fazio law firm and had a ball!
I haven't seen him in many years but know he is greatly missed.
God bless

This is a great loss for many beyond the members of Ben's family, as he touched the lives of those who knew him in many circles. He was wise, fair, respected for whom he was, and for what he shared with us.
His legacy lives on in his family and we will always see his face, hear his voice, and laugh with him as live passes by.
May God bless his family at this time with peace, joy, and a Fatherly embrace of comfort.
