Carole. Aunt Kit. Miss Carole. Kitty. That Sarcastic Lady. A firecracker known by many names, Carole Lenormand Childress, 73, joined the choir invisible Friday evening while listening to her favorite music in the comfort of her bed. A longtime resident of Abita Springs, she was born and raised in New Orleans, graduating from Dominican High School and Loyola University. Before retiring in 2013, she taught English at Holy Rosary then turned her focus on providing early childhood education at Valencia and Newcomb Nursery School. She is preceded in death by her parents Leland and Naomi Lenormand, her husband Malcolm Childress, Jr., her sister Linda Starnes, and her nephew Christopher Starnes. She is survived by her son Leland Childress, her daughter Elizabeth Melchizedek (Aaron), her nieces Ashley Bodenheimer (David) and Amy Jones (Gerard), her nephew Robert Kodman VonStarnes (Hope), her three granddaughters, and her grandniece. Considering the family funeral home is now a grocery store, details of a memorial are to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Northshore Humane Society in Covington.

Sadly, another one of my generation has left us. I attended De La Salle with Carole's late husband Malcolm and was also present at their wedding. Hard to grasp that they're both gone now.

I graduated from Holy Rosary in 1973 and remember Ms. Childress well, she was very patient and kind. She would take the time to explain things if you did not understand, but if she turned around and slammed that book on her desk you best be getting your act together. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Childress.
Sincerely,

I'm so sorry for your loss but I truly believe that in dying we return to the Father, so simply going back home. Carole will live on through those who knew her in life. Peace be with you all.
We both worked at Newcomb for years and I loved her humor and sarcasm, she was one of a kind.
