Constance Vlahos Obituary

Constance Babette Dickey Vlahos entered into her heavenly home on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Destin, Florida. Wife, Mother, Daughter, and Nurse, Constance Babette Dickey was born April 7, 1962 in Baton Rouge, La. at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital to Craig BonDurant Dickey and Corrinne Clarynda Womack Dickey. A Baton Rouge graduate of Belaire High School, Babette then attended Louisiana State University before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. Having met her husband, Thomas Michael Vlahos, at LSU, the two were married on October 24, 1981 at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Baton Rouge. Babette began her nursing career in Baton Rouge at Woman's Hospital, later following her husband's career moves before settling in Alpharetta, Georgia, where she served as a School Nurse, later becoming a Cluster Nurse for Fulton County, and eventually became the Georgia State President for the School Nursing Association in which she lobbied for changes on behalf of the School Nursing Association before the Georgia state legislature. Babette and Tom had four children: Charlotte Jennifer Vlahos, Christopher Daniel Vlahos, Nicholas Alexander Vlahos, and Eric Mathew Vlahos. In 2015, while residing in Georgia, Babette was diagnosed with gliosarcoma, after a brief, sudden illness. Despite her diagnosis, Babette bravely battled with the medical help of M. D. Anderson Hospital, and enjoyed the remainder of her days living with her husband in Destin, Fla. Babette loved her time with family on the beaches and in the waters of the Florida Gulf Coast, and equally enjoyed her family's vacations to the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, particularly to see the changing color of the leaves during the autumn months. Babette is preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, Bondurant Mast Dickey and Verna Jane Wilcox Dickey; maternal grandparents, Cleve Austin Womack and Ida Magdelene DeLaneuville Womack Poche; paternal aunt, Carole Ann Dickey Braud; maternal uncle, Cleve Austin "Bubby" Womack, Jr.; step-father, William "Billy" Eugene Bezdek; and, step-brother, Jeffrey Charles Bezdek. Babette is survived by: husband, Thomas Michael Vlahos; daughter, Charlotte Jennifer Vlahos; granddaughters, Alexis Grace Gillison and Aliyah Faith Gillison; eldest son, Christopher Daniel Vlahos and daughter-in-law, Hadley Christine Fenn Vlahos and son, Brody; son, Nicholas Alexander Vlahos; youngest son, United States Marine Corps, P.F.C., Eric Mathew Vlahos; Mother, Corrinne Clarynda Womack Dickey Bezdek; Father, Craig BonDurant Dickey; brother, Bradley Craig Dickey, and sister-in-law, Sheila Marie Landry Dickey; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A wonderful wife, lovingly devoted mother, blessed grandmother, cherished daughter, and caring sister, Babette will forever be in our thoughts and prayers until we are reunited again. Visitation will be at 11:00am with services at 12:00pm at Saint Rita Catholic Church, 137 Moll Dr., Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, 32459 on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Our sincerest condolences to the family. Babette was a member of our team for the last 9 years. She was an incredible School Nurse and School Health Leader. Her students, families, colleague and schools absolutely adored her. She was caring, thoughtful and her kind spirit would fill any room. We were so blessed to have her as part of our team. She is one of the most courageous persons that we have ever met and her inspiration and light will shine on. She will be dearly missed but rest in peace dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I remember her very well, she was like, almost another member of our family. Alta has stated so and I can add nothing more. Alta and I lost our son, William Alvin Palmer and can understand your families grief. Treasure Babette's memories.
