1920 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Cuba Lee Harrell Furrate, 97, a resident of Baton Rouge, died peacefully at Sunrise at Siegen Senior Community Center on June 6, 2018. Cuba was born on September 14, 1920, in Alamo, Tennessee, the fourth child of five born to John and Cora Lee Stagner Harrell. She moved to Baton Rouge as a young girl and attended Baker High School. In 1942 she married Louis Clarence Furrate, a union that lasted 69 years. They purchased the Town Talk and Ranchero restaurants where she worked alongside her husband for many years until their retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church where she served as a Sacristan and longtime Adorer. She is survived by her daughter Monica Furrate Callier and husband Greg; granddaughter Laura Lambert Wheeler and husband Chris; two great-grandsons Zachary and Blake Ochoa; brother Neal Harrell; nieces Betty Hill Woods, Faith Harrell McClure and Hope Harrell; and special friend Bernice Healy. Preceded in death by her husband Louis Furrate, parents John and Cora Lee Harrell, brothers Hollis and Grant Harrell, and sister Agnes Harrell Hill. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, June 16, from 9 A.M. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. with the Rev. Cleo Milano, celebrant. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice in His Care, particularly Deborah Braud and Sharon Lininger for their extraordinary care and kindness.
