Funeral services celebrating the life of Dr. Dan F. Clower will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville, with Reverend Lonnie Weidner officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Ball. Visitation will be observed from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Pallbearers honored to serve are Scott Pias, Cade Carter, Jimmy Taylor, Joseph Byrne, Anthony Carter, Justin Watson, James Clower and Prentiss Burt. Dr. Dan F. Clower, 88, of Pineville, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at his residence. Dan graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. He then earned his PhD in Entomology at Cornell University in 1955. He was a Professor of Entomology at LSU for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. He was the lead cotton Entomologist for the state of Louisiana and oversaw all cotton research in the state for over 20 years. He was a member of numerous organizations including: Gamma Alpha, Gamma Sigma, Sigma Xi, Alpha Zeta, The Entomological Society of America, The Louisiana Entomological Society, and the Louisiana Academy of Sciences. In addition, he was a member of the Arkansas Entomological Society, an honorary member of The Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association, The Louisiana Plant Pest Control Association, The Southwest Entomological Society, and PEG-US, a national committee sponsored by industry to promote wise and judicious use of the Pyrethroid Insecticides. He was inducted into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Fame by the LACA in 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Geraldene R. Clower; parents, John and Mary Holliday Clower, Jr. and a sister, Barbara Byrne. He is survived by his sons, James P. Clower and Dan F. Clower, Jr.; daughters, Lise' Carter and husband, Roger and Hilarie Taylor and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Dr. Anthony Carter and wife, Jessica, and Stephanie Clower Watson and husband, Justin; great grandchildren, Cade Carter, Karlee Carter, Caroline Carter, Christian Carter, Alina Carter and Mason Della Watson; brother, Kenneth Clower and wife, Reba; sisters, Judith Burt and husband, James and Kathleen Pias and husband, Scott; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to his special niece and caregiver, Nizzera Kimball, All Saints Hospice and all of his past and present caregivers for their untiring dedication and gentle loving care.
