Frederick B. Weimer, Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the age of 94. Born on January 10, 1925 to his parents Frederick B. Weimer, Sr. (Fritz) and Evelina Lagarde Weimer, Fred was a Louisiana native and life-long resident of Baton Rouge. He attended Sacred Heart School and Catholic High School before volunteering to join the Navy Seabees in the Pacific arena during World War II. After completing his military service, Fred went to work for Esso where he met and married his wife, Penny. He later worked for Olindes Furniture until his retirement. He loved hunting and fishing and ingrained this in his four sons. Fred was very involved in his community, serving as an usher at both Sacred Heart and St. Aloysius churches for more than 25 years. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in the Louisiana Senior Olympics for many years. He amused his family and friends with his youthful spirit and sense of humor. In his 80s, he traveled throughout Egypt, Jordan, and Europe where he received a private tour of the Sistine Chapel. Fred's zest for life will always be remembered by those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Penny Pipps Weimer; parents Evelina and Fritz Weimer; brother Albert; and grandson Chris. He is survived by his sons Freddy and wife Liz; Benny and wife Betty Ann; Brett and his fiancée Teri Hardin; Brad and wife Cathy; eight grandchildren Jeremy and wife Melissa, Mindy Shortreed and husband Greg, Becky, Hunter, Lauren, Blaise, Barrett, and Tyler Weimer and five great grandchildren Beth and Daniel Weimer, Myla, Cade and soon to be Daxton Shortreed.
