Gail Perkins Nettles, age 75, passed away September 4, 2021. She was a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana and a long time resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a graduate of West Lake High School and Louisiana State University with a degree in early childhood education. Gail was a teacher with East Baton Rouge Parish for 25 years and later worked at Louisiana Department of Education in teacher assessment and most recently spent 17 years working at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Gail's long term service in education made her a mentor and role model to many teachers and allowed her to have impacted many students' lives over the years. She authored a dozen teacher resource materials, published and distributed by Carson-Dellosa. She then went on to author and illustrate a line of children's books that feature characters Louise & Anna, who experience life growing up in Louisiana through children's eyes. Gail was a member of the crew of Romney, Charter member of Rambling Readers Book Club, and served on the Baton Rouge Ballet Board. She was loved and respected by many and her impact in so many areas will be remembered forever. She is survived by her Husband, Dwain Nettles of Baton Rouge, her daughter Angel Nettles Decker of Lewisburg Pennsylvania, son in law, Kevin P Decker of Lewisburg, grandchildren Alexandra, Gage, and Grant Decker of Lewisburg, grandchildren Katherine and Caroline Nettles of Baton Rouge, and Sister Billie Sandel of Ragley Louisiana. She was preceded in death by son Dannon Kyle Nettles of Baton Rouge, parents Prentiss and Ida Flossy Perkins and brother Tommy Perkins. Memorial service will take place at Rabenhorst Funeral home East on Saturday, September 18. Visitation from 1-2 and service beginning at 2 pm, officiated by Keith Cox.

I had a serendipitous meeting with Gail in New Orleans many years ago (while visiting that marvelous city with friends), and was struck with how lovely, warm, and welcoming she was. She will be missed!
