Gay Meadors Barnett passed away peacefully at home at the age of 85 on February 9, 2019. "Gay-Gay" was married for 66 years to her high school sweetheart, Dick, who recently passed away. She is survived by: her daughter, Leah Barnett Edrington and husband Billy; grandchildren, Blair Barnett Edrington, and Fairly Edrington Carville and husband Joe; and sister-in-law, Barbara Mattingly Meadors. She was preceded in death by: her mother, Irene Bearden Meadors; her father, J.B. Meadors, Sr.; her step-mother, Francis Meadors; and her siblings, James and Randy Meadors. She grew up in Denham Springs and graduated from DSHS. Gay was a high school cheerleader and played varsity basketball. She lived in Denham Springs with her husband until moving to Baton Rouge in 1984. Although Gay-Gay could be very direct at times, she deeply loved her family. The family wishes to sincerely express our gratitude to her devoted caregivers Cindy, Shay, Annise and Debra who lovingly cared for her, and to Ashley, her nurse from the Hospice of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Jefferson Baptist Church, 9135 Jefferson Hwy. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 11:00 am until the memorial service to begin at 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be held prior to visitation. Please consider making a memorial donation to Heritage Ranch Christian Children's Home, 20090 Tucker Rd., Zachary, LA 70791 or to The Hospice of Baton Rouge, 3600 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
