Gladys B. Thompson James, 81, transitioned peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Gladys worked as a pre-kindergarten and elementary education teacher for over 30 years. She will be dearly missed by her husband Jerry James; two daughters, Judith Jackson and Alicia James; two granddaughters, Jamecia Jackson-Tobias (Kevin) and Jaelyn Jackson; great-grandson, Kaison Tobias, and godson, Tarus Burrell (Kandice). Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Greater New Galilee Baptist Church, 9185 Wilbur St. Baton Rouge from 1:30 - 3:00 pm. Due to COVID restrictions, a private service for immediate family and friends will be conducted by Dr. Mark A. Litt, Senior Pastor at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services entrusted to Miller & Daughter Funeral Home.

My dear Ms Gladys, what an honor and privilege to have known you and Mr Jerry this many years. From a child as our next door neighbor,to the decades later when you and your husband were there to encourage me as I delivered my 1st sermon. God always knows the best order for our life experiences. I praise God in Jesus name, our families growing together was a part of God's plan. For your rest in peace,for strength for your family,and the assurance of your place in The Lord, I am eternally grateful. In Jesus Christ name. Amen

My Aunt Gladys impacted the lives of so many family and long time friends. I remember her giving my first perm (aka relaxer).

I fondly remember hanging at the bowling alley at campus during bowling tourneys (way back) and many many many ‘smack talking’ cards /dominos parties that took place when all gathered at Aunt Glady’s and Unc Jerry’s.

I met Gladys some 40 plus years ago and somehow we bonded and became friends. She was a down to earth person, she spoke her mind but not in a negative way. She was honest, a person of great strength and had a great love for children. Farewell my friend, You are already missed, but I thankGod that we were a part of each other lives. I extend my sincere condolences to this beautiful family. Be encouraged.
