Gretchen Peiser Pressburg, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2018 in the Butterfly Wing at BR General Hospital. She was born in Baton Rouge, the only child of her beloved parents, Rabbi Walter G Peiser and Frances Shohl Peiser. Gretchen wore many hats during her life, all of which were celebrated at her 90th birthday party this past February. Known for her brilliant mind, she most loved politics and the economy, spending many hours glued to Fox News, CNN or CNBC. For sure, there was nothing more exciting to her than a good presidential debate! Having grown up as the daughter of a Rabbi, religion was always a meaningful part of her life. She had a strong sense of compassion and will and showed it by her many years of caring for and her devotion to her invalid husband. She was also a good friend to many and above all a good-hearted giver of advice, especially to those who would listen. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Gilmore (Larry), Jeanie Gruber (Jay); grandchildren, Robin Levy Eddy (Shawn), Brian Levy, Ben Gruber (Hailey), and Jake Gruber; and great-grandchildren, Ben Caro, and Cecilia Bookman, and James Gruber. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bernard Pressburg. The family wishes to especially thank her two long-time caregivers, Maggie Beal and LaToya Beal whose many hours with her brought her comfort and joy. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown, 825 Government St., on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the BR Food Bank, St. Jude's Hospital, or the .
