Helen Dougall Gaunt, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 08, 2018 at the St James Health and Wellness Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born on November 5, 1929 in Glasgow, Scotland, the only child of the late James and Robina Simpson. She was married to the late John (Jack) Arnold Gaunt and together they had four sons, Stephen David (Patricia), Paul Andrew (Rhonda), Peter James Alfred (Mary), and Philip John (Tammey) Gaunt. Nothing brought a smile to her face faster than talking about her four boys. Helen graduated from Balfron High School (Dux Medalist for highest academic achievement) in 1946 and later received a Bachelor's Degree from Roger Williams College and a Master's Degree from the University of Cincinnati in English and Literature. She loved to read and complete the most complex crossword puzzles she could find. Helen was a devoted wife and loving mother. She supported her husband's career and shortly after marriage and their first child, they moved from the United Kingdom to McIntosh, Alabama, followed by stays in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Barrington, Rhode Island, College Station, Texas and Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout her entire life, she never lost her love for Scotland nor her beautiful Scottish accent. She and Jack were always very active in the local communities and painstakingly selected the right church for themselves at each stop. In addition to her four sons, Helen is survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Helen had long desired to donate her body to the Tulane University Medical Center. Arrangements are pending for her requested Celebration of Life service to be held at St John's Methodist Church. The family would like to express our thanks to Rhonda and the staff at St James Place, as well as Susie and the staff at Hospice of Baton Rouge. If desired, friends may make memorial donations to the Hospice of Baton Rouge.
