James passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the age of 81. He was a retired business owner who specialized in foreign trade; resident of Lafayette and native of Welsh, La. Visiting will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Brusly on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, celebrated by Father Matt Lorrian. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Bienvenu and husband Martin, Dayna Herron and husband Keith, Evelyn Gilcrease and husband Dr. Eddie Gilcrease, and Jimmie Lynn Benoit; sons, Mark Benoit, David Scott Benoit, Damon Benoit and Luke Benoit; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Linda LeClercq Benoit; son, Steven Benoit; grandson, Christopher Bienvenu; parents, Etienne and Ina Benoit; and brothers, Bobby and Gene Benoit. Pallbearers will be Stevie Benoit, McGwire Clark, Hunter Long, Hagen Long, Peyton Cummings, Christian Cummings, Luke Benoit, Jr. and Matthew Benoit. Honorary pallbearer will be Pawpaw's best buddy Parquer Norris. Our daddy was a man of faith who was very devoted to his family and friends. He loved to cook, spend time with his loved ones and travel the world. You'd never see him without a smile on his face and he was a true southern gentleman whose memory will live on forever.
