James "Pete" Peterson, a native of Bluefield, WV and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on October 17, 2018 at the age of 75. Pete was a U.S. Marine who served in the Vietnam War. His greatest passion was for his grandchildren, whom he loved to laugh with, play with, and spoil whenever he could. Pete was a skilled painter who took great pride in his work. He worked at C.H. Peterson & Sons, a family-owned commercial painting business, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Louisiana Farm Bureau. Pete was blessed with many friends whom he valued and loved dearly. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Anne Richard Peterson; daughters, Renee Meador (Dr. Michael Meador) and Jill Jones (Dr. Brian Jones); grandchildren, Marie and Joshua Meador, Samuel and Elise Jones; brothers, Charles Eric (Janet) of Charlottesville, VA, and Edmund Reece of Baton Rouge; sister, Patricia Willcutt (Larry) of Fairhope, AL; in-laws, Pat and Frank Porto and Christine Richard; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dachshund Heidi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Roberta Peterson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold Richard, Sr. and Marcelle Richard; and brother-in-law, Harold Richard Jr. Interment will take place on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA. A police escort will leave Rabenhorst Funeral Home, located at 825 Government Street in Baton Rouge, at 1:45 p.m. for a graveside service which will start at 2:30 p.m. The Peterson family would like to extend special thanks to Robert Wood, M.D., Bahij Khuri, M.D., Julie Martin MSN, FNP-C, and caregivers, Artie Sylvan and Renee Smith.
