Janice Wilbanks Hickman, 67, peacefully passed away May 5, 2019 at home after a long battle with kidney disease. A longtime resident of Goose Creek, SC, she was born February 22, 1952 in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Edward and Faye Wilbanks. Janice graduated from Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans and Louisiana State University, home of her beloved LSU Fightin' Tigers. In 1980 she married to John Hickman of Wilmington, NC with whom she remained married for 39 years until recently parted by death. A social worker by trade, her work was her passion and it was evident to all that she enjoyed helping others. She loved her dogs who were always present in her life, and they were always by her side. She was a huge fan of LSU sports, mainly football, and she enjoyed cheering for the Tigers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Dreux Mayeux and brother Donald Wilbanks. She is survived by her husband, John Hickman, son Lee Mayeux and his wife Stephanie of Baton Rouge, her grandchildren Margaux, Landry and Julia Mayeux, brother David Wilbanks and his wife Lynn, sister Jean Ann Wilbanks, and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2019 from 3-4 pm at Simplicity Low Country Cremation & Burial Services, 281 Treeland Dr., Ladson, SC, 29456 In lieu of flowers, she has requested that donations be made to Harbour House Shelter for Domestic Violence, North Carolina.
