Jay Alonzo Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, June 6, 1950, to L.J. and Theresa Alonzo, the second of their four children. He is survived by Debra Lowe Alonzo, his wife of 45 years, son and daughter-in-law Collin and Tina Alonzo, daughter and son-in-law Lauren and Chris Keyser, and daughter Madeline Roselie Alonzo; 4 grandchildren, Dylan Alonzo, Zoe Alonzo, Caroline Keyser and Lillian Keyser; his sister and brother-in-law, Roxanne and Earl Atkinson, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robin and Lisa E. Alonzo and Kevin and Lee Ann Alonzo. He was Jay to many friends and co workers, P.J. (PaPa Jay) to his grandchildren and "Uncle Denny" to his many nieces and nephews. He had a quick wit, a grin that makes us smile when we think of him, warm hugs that he readily gave, a way of leaning into us that made us laugh, kind words to soothe and a heart bigger than he was. Jay graduated from Istrouma High School in 1968. He graduated from LSU with a Masters plus 30 hours in Education. He taught for East Baton Rouge Parish School System for a while then earned certification as an instrument specialist. He worked for Louisiana Control and Temperature Control, began his own business in refrigeration and air conditioning, then later worked for Rhodia where he retired in 2010. Jay could fix anything. He loved to tinker even at an early age and enjoyed serving us all with his talents. He would find things on the side of the road, fix them and then gift someone with a fully restored item. We, as his family, will miss him so much. We know that he is at peace now; finally, at peace. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd. on Monday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Buz Treme'. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305, (800) 223-2732 or www.apdaparkinson.org.
