Dr. Jayanth Sanampudi, age 39, died on Friday, October 12, 2018, in Orange County, California. From his birth in Marshalltown, Iowa on November 2, 1978, to his death, Jay has generously shared his talents, kindness, and joy with everyone he encountered. Jay excelled at academics. He could read by the age of 4, multiply by age 8, and graduated high school as a National Merit Finalist at age 17. He later attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Bachelors of Arts in Microbiology with honors. He went on to attend the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he received his M.D. After completing surgical training at the integrated surgery program in Phoenix, Jay became board certified by the American Board of Surgery and was a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He practiced at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California, where his colleagues and patients remember him for his tremendous skill, and for his calm and compassionate spirit. Even in his death, Jay continued to save others through organ donation. Jay was a foodie and an avid hiker, passions he shared with his friends and family. Jay is survived by his father and mother, Kondala and Vijaya Sanampudi of Baton Rouge, LA, and his brother, sister-in-law, and niece, Sanjeev, Carrie, and Amalya Sanampudi of Brooklyn, NY, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. I think of Jay often, and share with others Sweet Memories of him!
He will always be in my memory as That Sweet Kid I drove around with the other kids. He would listen to my rattling on about different topics of interests so intently. He was just One Of The Gang of Boys on the Block, but So Special! I always gave him uplifting words about his direction in life.
Jay, May Peace That Is Promised BE Yours! You Are So Missed Honey!

I just found out today Dr. Jay passed away and I am grieved and heartbroken. Dr. Jay saved my life when a cancerous tumor blocked my colon and I was admitted to the ER at Mission Hospital. I was about to undergo a procedure that wouldve caused me to bleed out and die from another doctor. But Dr. Jayjust happened to be walking through that hall at that specific moment and happened to see my X-ray. No one saw what he saw. He looked and he just knew what had to be done. He took over my care at once. He came to my bedside immediately in his gentle calm demeanor but with urgency and told me he knows what is wrong, hes had experience with this before but we need to go now. I was out of it due to the pain and hours of suffering but there was something special in Dr. Jay causing me to immediately trust him and go peacefully into surgery. He removed part of my colon and I had a colostomy for four months. He oversaw my care and performed my colon resection and followups. Im a mother of five girls and at the time my youngest was 5 years old. Im here today with my children because of Dr. Jay. I came across his business card last week and wanted to reach out and let him know how much he impacted my life and the lives of my family. I share him in my testimony to others and I often think of him in amazement of the impact he has on the lives of others. Ive read through the Facebook posts and its touching to read everyones comments. This is devastating and I dont understand why Dr. Jay would be taken from us too soon.
My heart goes out to his family. His spirit lives on through the lives he touched here on earth. I see my scars and they are marks Dr. Jay left that tell one amazing story of someone that gave so much to so many in such a short time.

My deepest condolences to the Sanampudi family. I knew Jay only briefly through my interactions with him late evenings on the wards or in the doctors dining room. We would chat and exchange small talk and it started to become apparent to me that I really liked him and looked forward to running in to him. I will miss getting to know him better.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your exceptional son.
I first met Dr. Sanampudi in July 2012 after he saved my brothers life. He was the trauma surgeon in the emergency room and would be one of the first people we spoke with.He was such a kind, gentle, caring person with a calm demeanor, who continued to check on us throughout my brothers hospital stay. He had the nicest smile!
Years later Jay performed surgery on my brother and we discussed the night he saved him, only to learn it was the first time he had ever performed that life saving procedure and he said it would be something he would never forget.
We too will never forget Dr. Jay Sanampudi...to our family he was heaven sent. May God bless you and give you peace. With our deepest sympathy,

We express our deepest Condolences to the Sanampudi Family. I had the honor and privilege to have him operate on me and to get to know him. I just went back today toMV hospital to find out I will need another surgery with all doctors knowing I would not do it unless Dr Jay was the one to do it. He took care of me and allowed me to live and see my children. I will forever be grateful for him and all he did. Tomorrow is his bday. You Dr Jay will always live in our hearts.

VJ, Kondala, and Sanj, we are so sad and heavy hearted at the news of this, words just can not express our deep sorrow of what you are facing.
Please know you are in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers!
Jay, growing up with Brandon, was the sweetest little guy, always full of wonder. I would take him along with other kids in Allen to different places and boast on Jay's accomplishments. At the time, he my have been 14, he was going to UTEP, for special summer studies. He was so smart and sweet!
Your loss is our loss!
He touched so many lives!
Our prayers are for God's Merciful Comfort to help you through this extreme pain of loss, Amen!

Dr. Jay made my husband and I laugh in the pre-op room. Dr. Jay told us he never has breakfast and he is ready to operate on an empty stomach, both his and mine! He radiated joy and humor. I felt confident and comfortable in his care. Dr. Jay removed my gallbladder before it ruptured. My family and myself thank Dr. Jay forever and will honor his memory, as he will live on in a beautiful way through saving my life. We send love and prayers to Dr. Jay's family and friends.

Our hearts are heavy with pain due to the passing of Dr. Jayanth Sanampudi. My family met Jay at the wedding of his brother, Sanj, to my granddaughter, Carrie, in Omaha, Nebraska. Since then, Jay expressed his admiration, respect and love for his brother's family, which he lovingly shared with my family. I and my family will miss Jay. My family's prayers and gentle thoughts are with you. To Jay's mother and grandmother, know I am holding your hands in my thoughts and prayers. Mary Ellen Kreifels (Carrie Kreifels' grandmother).
