""I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."" II Timothy 4:7. Jessie Marie Rushing left this earthly realm Sunday, July 29, 2018, at her home, in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born on June 17, 1928, to the union of Jessie and Emily Anderson, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was baptized at an early age at Wesley United Methodist Church and later became a member of Hughes United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She received her high school diploma from Southern University Laboratory School. She also received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Southern University, a Master of Education Degree in Special Education from Southeastern University, and 30 additional hours in Education from Southern University and A&M College. Jessie Marie had an outstanding professional career. She was an educator for 57 years, teaching in Tangipahoa, West Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge, Pointe Coupe, and Calcasieu parishes. She also served many as a mentor and advisor. Jessie Marie leaves to cherish her memories a loving and dear family; two sons, Melvin Ray Jr. (Carolyn), and Samuel Charles (Clementine); four grandsons, Kevin Gerard, Keith Charles, Paul Leslie, and David Andle; one granddaughter Kendra Marie; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Eli, and Grace; one sister-in-law, Mary Anderson; nephew Troy Anderson; nieces, Simone and Kesha; and a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Emily Anderson, brother Porter Anderson, sisters Emily and Marion, and granddaughter Tonesia Renee. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held at Hughes United Methodist Church, 802 North 38th St, on Friday, August 10th. Visitation will be from 9-10, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am.
