Marjorie Major Beard, 97, passed away at her home in Baton Rouge on August 10, 2017, after a short illness. Born in Chamberlain, Louisiana to Alice and William Major on January 8, 1920, Margie grew up on Smithfield Plantation in West Baton Rouge Parish and was a country girl who loved riding horses and being outdoors. She married the love of her life, Woody, on April 25, 1940 and they were married for 74 years when Woody passed away. Margie made friends with everyone she met and loved visiting with her neighbors and calling her friends and talking on the phone with them. She loved gardening, doing yard work and cooking, and she and Woody enjoyed swimming in their pool well into their eighties. She had a sound mind and was active until her last days. Margie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Louis Brupbacher; her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Kathleen Beard; her granddaughter and husband, Michele and Don Mayeux; her grandson, Brooks Beard; and her great-granddaughter, Paige Mayeux. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Beard, her parents, Alice and William Major, her brothers, Allen, Earl and Julius Major, and her sister Adeline Holcombe. Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Father Pat Broussard. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Jenn's Angels for their kindness and care during her illness. Memorial contributions can be made to Society of St. Vincent DePaul or the . Pallbearers are Brooks Beard, Louis Brupbacher, Don Mayeux, John Beard, Jon Wren and Troy DeRouen. Honorary Pallbearers are Russell Todd and Marty Cardinal. Margie said that when she was a little girl her Daddy told her to be nice to everybody, and that is how she lived her life.
