Marvin Simon Bezdek passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the age of 75. He was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and New Roads, Louisiana. Marvin graduated from St. Joseph's Prep Seminary in Edgerton, Wisconsin, and then from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology. He is most recently retired from Wells Fargo Advisors, where he worked as a Certified Financial Planner. Previously, he retired from South Central Bell after working there for 20 years. He served in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Captain. Marvin was a diehard LSU fan and an avid golfer and fisherman. He was an amateur chef; his specialties were gumbo, fried fish and jambalaya. He took great pleasure in cooking for many. He was very proud of his Czech heritage and loved polka music. But his greatest love and joy was spending time with his family. The role he took most seriously, and that he was most proud of, was that of being a grandfather to his four beloved grandchildren. He also dearly loved his many nieces and nephews. Marvin is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Toni Osborne Bezdek; daughters, Terri Bezdek Loughlin and husband, Kearney, and Perri Bezdek Prellop and husband, Joel; grandchildren, Sidney Louis Soniat du Fossat Loughlin, Maisy Lee Prellop, Camille Lee Soniat du Fossat Loughlin and Max Alfred Prellop; brothers, James Bezdek and wife Barbara, and Dennis Bezdek; sister, Janet Bezdek Walker; nephews, Bil, Greg, John, Jimmy, Todd Bezdek, Scott, and Todd Beatty; nieces, Kathleen, Tami, Kelly, Toni, Shari, Michele, Andi and Candace; and numerous other family members. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Adele Bezdek; brother, Bill Bezdek; and nephew, Jeffrey Bezdek. The Bezdek family would like to thank Dr. Oliver Sartor and his staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prostate Cancer Research Fund at Tulane University. Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, September 14, 2018, from 9:00AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.greenoaksfunerals.com.

Marvin was one of the finest men I have known. I don't ever remember seeing him when he didn't have a smile on his face. I know he will be greatly missed and I am especially sad that his grandchildren won't have such a kind, sweet grandfather around who has been such a wonderful presence in their lives. You all are in our prayers.

I am very sorry to hear of Marvin's passing. I had nothing but fun with Mr. Marvin as Joel always called him. I was fortunate to get play golf with Marvin many times and we always had a grand time - despite the poor play by all of us. One of my favorite memories is listening to Marvin after he hit a bad shot. Marvin had a great way of expressing himself verbally after a poor shot. When we played, I almost wished he would hit a bad shot so I could hear him curse at himself, the ball, the course or his clubs. We always had a blast playing golf!
My thoughts are with the Bezdek family. Marvin thank you for all your hospitality, kindness and for being my friend...I always admired how proud you were of your family and rightly so. I know your grand kids will miss you and that they were your pride and joy. You will be missed. Geaux Tigers!
