At the age of 61, Prentiss Joe Partin died Monday, March 7, 2011, at his home in Zachary due to lung melanoma. He was born June 6, 1949, in Centreville, Miss. He was a 1968 graduate of Zachary High School. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and completed his master's degree at Southern University. Joe began his professional career at Zachary High School in 1974, as a teacher and coach. He later became assistant principal, then principal. Before his retirement in 2007, he concluded his career as a director for East Baton Rouge Parish schools in the Central Office. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jeanne Marie Fonte Partin; children, Jessica Partin Sonnier and her husband, Stuart Sonnier, of Baton Rouge, and Jason Partin and his wife, Amanda Weilbaecher Partin, their son, Miles Finney, and their son yet to be born, of Zachary; mother, Vivian Roberts Partin, of Crosby, Miss.; siblings, Dona Voss and her husband, Johnny, of Danbury, Texas, Donald Partin Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Zachary, and Willie Partin, of Crosby; and brothers-in-law, Dr. Donald Fonte, of Zachary, and Spencer Fonte, of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Partin; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gertrude and Anthony Fonte; and brother-in-law, Kenny Fonte. Visitation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Zachary, on Thursday, March 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. M. Jeffery Bayhi, celebrant. Interment in Azalea Rest Cemetery, Zachary. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Burke, Tom Burkhart, Gordon Dotson, Terry Knight, Adam Lea, and Wayne Messina. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jerry Boudreaux, Joe Calloway, Earl Chancellor, Jimmy Fonte, John Fonte, Billy Honeycutt and John Phares.
