Reta Parker Bergquist passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021, the beloved mother of Brian Bergquist (Kay) and Dale Bergquist, proud grandmother of Sara Thomas (Jason), Rachel Beckworth (Ben), Nathan Bergquist (Kaci), Jennifer Rose (Shannon), Leslie Bergquist and Elizabeth Bajon (Ron) and loving great-grandmother of 10 great-grandchildren. While in high school, she met her future husband Eddie – they were the proverbial high school sweethearts - becoming lifelong partners married for over 60 years, with Eddie preceding her in death a few years ago. Graduating from St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, as a registered nurse, she put her training to use raising two boys through broken bones, skinned knees and assorted injures. She and Eddie, an engineer for Kaiser Aluminum, travelled the world extensively for his job. While living overseas, she, her husband and their children were able to appreciate many of the world's different cultures and vistas. Following Eddie's retirement, they settled in southeast Louisiana and travelled extensively throughout the US and Canada in a motor home. Her family always looked forward to her wonderful cuisine and conversation. She was an active member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church and enjoyed reading, growing houseplants, and visiting with friends and family. Mom leaves behind an abundance of friends, fellow bridge players, and a long legacy of love. Due to COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged, and masks are required to attend services. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 Hwy 22, Mandeville, LA 70471. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
