Richard Gene "Dick" Rizer, a native of Detroit, Michigan and resident of Baton Rouge, died peacefully on July 6, 2018, at the age of 81. He was a graduate of Notre Dame University who went on to join the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for four years, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He then went on to become a Special Agent for the F.B.I., retiring after 27 years of service. He was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, and a member of the American Legion and the Marine Corp League. He is survived by: his daughter, Beth Ann Effler and husband Lawrence; and grandchildren, Genevieve Effler, Joseph Effler, Charlotte Rizer, and Abigail Rizer. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Richard and Genevieve Rizer; his wife, Leocadia "Lee" Rizer nee Helbrecht; a son, Richard A. Rizer; and a brother, Gary Rizer. A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, July 9 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street. Visitation will continue at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9 am on Tuesday, July 10, until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Reception at the Parish Activity Center at Our Lady of Mercy to follow burial. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake RMC and at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Manresa House of Retreats.
