Obituary

A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge died Thursday, January 10, 2019. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II earning the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and service connected disability. Dick had been employed by Ethyl Corporation, Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, and had served as assistant Sergeant-at-Arms in the Louisiana State Senate for four years each under Governor Earl Long, Governor Robert Kennon, and again under Governor Earl Long. He retired in 1980 as a Louisiana State Police Purchasing Agent and a Louisiana Department of Public Safety Procurement Officer. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School where he was on the varsity all-state football team and where he was a R.O.T.C. 2nd Lieutenant. In 1960 Dick ran for a Ward 1 seat on the City-Parish council losing by only 72 votes. Dick was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral, LSU Alumni Association, Alumnus of Louisiana State University, National Association of Corrosion Engineers, Elk's Lodge #490, American Legion Post #38, National Association of Purchasing Agents, and had served as chairman of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce Capital Improvement Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard McCabe Cointment, Sr. and Irene Dupre' Cointment. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Cathedral on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 9 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers we be Willard Cointment, Gerard F.S. LeBlanc, Paul Spaht, Mike Tham, David Thibodaux, Charles Cusimano. Memorial donations are requested to the Richard McCabe Cointment, Jr. Trust fund for the maintenance of St. Joseph Cathedral. Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. in charge of arrangements.
