Robert Antell Holmes passed away at the age of 71 on October 7 in his home in St. Francisville, La. He is survived by Linda Lamb Holmes, his wife of 50 years, and by his children Jason Alan Holmes and his wife, Noelle Elder, and their children Samuel and Caroline of Pearland, TX and Rachel Holmes Saia and her husband, Brad Saia, and their children Savannah, Sarah, and Stephen of Baton Rouge, LA. A celebration of his life will be held Wed. Oct. 10 at 11:00 at the Saint Francisville United Methodist Church followed by lunch. Friends are invited to visit the family on Tuesday Oct. 9 from 4:00pm - 6:30pm and Wednesday Oct. 10 from 10:00am-11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Francisville United Methodist Church where Robert was a member for 20 years. Robert was born in Vincennes, Indiana on February 25, 1947 as the only child to Robert Samuel and Naomi Kixmiller Holmes. Following graduation from Roswell High School, Roswell, NM in 1965, he entered Purdue University were he earned the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1971. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force Veterinary Corps from 1971-1973. From 1973-1977 he was in private practice but left that to obtain MS and PhD degrees from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1983 he joined the faculty of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine where he stayed until his retirement in 2010.

Linda, I am sorry for your loss. The 4yrs I knew Bob in vet school he was a pleasant and cheerful guy. I think it was Bob who arrived at school one snowy morning white as the snow after a scary motorcycle trip. I recall he failed flight school because of a sight condition. I think that was a good thing to know! He was a good man.
