On Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 3:17 p.m. at Lane Memorial Hospital, The Honorable Rodnette "Ronnie" Bethley Edwards (State Representative, Dist. 29) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Affectionately known as "Ronnie," Representative Edwards was a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a native of Woodville, Mississippi. Ronnie is survived by her loving husband, Oliver G. Edwards, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Treasured by Ronnie was her esteemed mother, Gladys D. Hammond of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ronnie was devoted to her two adoring children, Chanel Gené Edwards Ward, (Ronald) New Orleans, Louisiana; and Cody Jerome Edwards, (Nicole) Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ronnie's legacy also consisted of two step children, Oliver G. Edwards, Jr. (Pricilla), Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Tammy Edwards, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ronnie was revered by her four grandchildren, Autumn Edwards, Prince Edwards, Heaven Edwards and Israel Edwards of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and her two step grandchildren, Tiara and Jada Edwards of Baker, Louisiana and one step great-grandchild, Amaya Anderson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Others who celebrated Ronnie's memory are her affectionate brother Derek Maurice Bethley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, faithful friend and confidant, Sharon Weston Broome and an array of relatives including her uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. Ronnie is preceded in death by her father James Bethley of Woodville, Mississippi and grandparents, Reverend George L. Davis and Hester Jane Walker Davis of Woodville, Mississippi. Visitation at 8:00 a.m. and religious services at 10:00 a.m. will be held at Living Faith Christian Center, Friday March 4th, 2016. The repast will be held at the Charles R. Kelly Center, 3535 Riley, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70805. Services will be conducted by: Reverend Errol Domingue. The Interment will be conducted at the Heavenly Gates Mausoleum, 10633 Veterans Memorial Boulevard Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70807. Hall, Davis and Sons Funeral Home will preside over the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to "The Ronnie Edwards Education Fund," c/o UREC, P.O. Box 73032, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70874.
